The Sahel Young Professionals Program (SYPP) is made for young graduates and professionals who want to jumpstart their career or explore new horizons. A stepping stone for a successful career, the SYPP aims to allow talented individuals to build their communities, economically and socially, and create a network of like-minded young Africans, engaged for inclusive development.

What’s the Sahel Young Professionals?

The SYPP seeks to promote and facilitate the professional integration of young people from the Sahel region through the implementation of a professional work placement, training and mentorship program lasting 6 to 12 months for 50 young people. The program consists of multiple collaborations and partnerships with national and international companies as well as non-profits to prepare talented outcoming graduates for a professional career.

Upon selection and prior to their placements, participants will undergo a 20-week professional etiquette training workshop to ensure the quality of their performance during their placements.

Each participant will also be paired with a mentor, a professional in a field relevant to the participant, whose role will be to guide them on their professional journey and allow them to make the most of their placements.

Selection into the program is made with a commitment to foster the professional inclusion of women, people with disabilities, and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Our mission

We seek to encourage, empower and facilitate the professional integration of young, talented individuals devoted to giving back to their communities. Phase 1

The Selection Process

Once you’ve applied through our website, there’s nothing else for you to do! The applications received will be processed within 3 months, both by the selection committee and our partner organizations. The selection will be made based on the following points:

Phase 2

Placement Preparation

If you’ve made it this far, it means you were selected for the program, congratulations! We’re honored to have you on this journey. You and your fellow participants were selected by different companies and placed into different professional sectors by the selection committee. The SYPP Pre-Internship Workshop (PIW) will make sure you have all the tools and resources to make the most of your time there and facilitate your insertion into the workplace.

Phase 3

Workshop

The next step is your participation in a 20-week boot camp during which you will learn about the work etiquette, general principles of the professional world and the values and protocols of the organizations you will work at. In parallel, you will also be trained in leadership and effective teamwork in the workplace. At the end, you will be able to produce more creative, better work.

Phase 4

A little before the beginning of your internship, you will be assigned a mentor, whose role will be to support and guide you. You will be able to contact them for advice, assistance or simply to share your progress!

Phase 5

Follow-up

During your internships, participants will answer weekly report questions to update us about your internships: your successes and failures, your accomplishments and challenges. These will be a great way for us to measure your evolution through the program and something nice for you to look back upon!

Phase 6

SYPP Summit

At the end of your internships, the SDI will organize a Summit. The SDI Summit will be a large networking opportunity where you will be able to connect and exchange expertise with representatives from major companies, political leaders and business strategists. This will also be a great opportunity to explore a wide variety of professional fields and activities.
