As did Mali’s first president, Modibo Keita, we believe education to be the cornerstone of a nation’s development. The Modibo Keita Scholarship Program (MKSP) aims to allow vulnerable youth from financially challenged backgrounds who would otherwise be unable to attend university to contribute to their community’s welfare.

What’s the Modibo Keita University Scholarship?

The MKSP aims to allow 40 young individuals from poor backgrounds and marginalized demographics (young women, individuals with disabilities and displaced individuals) to attend private universities in Mali and Niger by covering their tuition fees for the length of their program of study. A number of 10 scholarships will be reserved for promising students from disadvantaged backgrounds with undergraduate degrees that seek to complete a graduate degree.

Upon selection, participants will be matched with one of our partner universities into the degree program of their choice.

Our mission

The MKSP is one of the projects of the Sahel Development Initiative. At the SDI, we believe that communities are the nucleus of our societies, a boundless extension of our families. As such, we recognize that, in the complex political and socio-economic realm that is the Sahel, no individual or endeavour, engaged towards the amelioration of our common home is vain. We believe that ordinary people can bring extraordinary change and we know that we are all parts in an ever-evolving machine, cogs in the wheels of change. Each individual’s impact is indispensable to secure our ideal Sahel in our lifetime, for ourselves and those who will take up the torch.
